Bravo aux camarades de @RAPasso d'avoir tordu le bras du gouvernement pour le forcer à publier le décret d'application de l'interdiction de la publicité pour les énergies fossiles !

This very interesting post reminded me of how I myself have often spent too much time on data analysis rigor at the expense of working on the next experiment https://substack.com/@shearerp/note/c-354376173
I've warned before that any FOSS project incorporating AI output is doing so at their peril.
Previously people leaned on a federal circuit ruling that was *declined to be taken up by the supreme court* interpreting it as a free-for-all to LLM license-wash any project in translation, or really to incorporate any such materials and they would be public domain.
But that doesn't mean we have an answer! We've yet to see!
Annnnnnnnnd: I think we're likely to have that perspective upended soon.
The third circuit issued a recent ruling in the *opposite direction* of the previously well cited federal ruling, that AI training on copyrighted material is NOT fair use: https://www.courthousenews.com/ai-training-of-copyrighted-material-not-fair-use-third-circuit/
Annnnndddddd.... with a bunch of people trying to make LLM-generated decompilation replacements for Adobe's entire suite, we're likely to suddenly see corporations rear up angrily.
Just wait till someone tries to vibewash a Nintendo game decompilation. Hey, what do you think is gonna happen?
@cwebber @jlink @mttaggart this is going to be the least satisfying “I told you so” of my entire life
Praying for the strength not to yell "we could simply march them into the fucking sea because we outnumber them by factors you can't even comprehend" at the liberals gaming out election strategy in my replies.
I sure hope Chuck Schumer is reading my mentions you guys. Cause I sure ain't.

With any luck, their CDN provider will decline service. I don't think this kind of livestream is possible without one?
@timbray ooh this is new to me
I can’t read it, and tapping it does nothing
But you have a reply already, and it indicates others can see the quoted toot
From what I've read;
They have stated that they're going to live stream the execution by firing squad of Nidal Malik Hasan, the gunman from the Fort Hood shooting in 2009.
In theory he could appeal and delay it, but it looks like he wants to be a martyr, so he very well might not.
Currently scheduled for Dec 3rd. Exact details of how and where it'll be broadcast hasn't been made public yet.
Thank you for a calm summary of an absolutely horrifying situation.

@eff That's cutting it *really* close to the end of #DAFDay, posting this at about 11pm ET. I also got another request in today's mail.
I'm trying to honor all DAF Day requests I see from charities I would have given to anyway, and I'm pretty sure yours will be the last on the actual day.
And by the way, thanks for being on Mastodon!
